Could Rosberg lead the Mercedes Formula E team?

Nico Rosberg shocked the motorsport world back at the end of 2016 when he announced that he would be retiring from Formula 1. The German achieved his dream of winning a world championship and had no motive to carry on, settling down to enjoy life with his family.

Mercedes similarly dropped a bombshell this week when they announced that they would be quitting DTM to instead focus on Formula E. New reports suggest that Rosberg could make a return to the motorsport scene in 2019, when Mercedes enter the all electric series for the first time.

Germany's Auto Bild claim that a deal for Rosberg to be the team principal of the German outfit is entirely possible and that he has already met with series boss Alejandro Agag in Monaco. Rosberg would join fellow F1 champion Alain Prost in the FE paddock, who is involved with the Renault e.dams squad.

"No, I don't think so," Prost said when asked if FE could one day replace F1. "There is not only no reason to believe that this situation will ever occur, but also no desire. If Formula E has gained so much credibility, it's partly because the races are in big cities like New York, Paris and now Montreal. It's also a way to stand out from F1."
