Red Bull can still learn "an awful lot" in 2018

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner says that the team isn't ready to give up on the 2018 season. The energy drink squad is not involved in the title fight this year, as it is 167 points behind championship leaders Mercedes.

However, it is secure in third place as its nearest competitor behind is Renault who sit 162 points adrift. Next season, Red Bull will swap out its Renault power and switch to Honda, who have held an alliance with Red Bull's junior team Toro Rosso this year.

When asked by RACER if the Milton Keynes squad is waiting for the end of the season, Horner replied: “No, not really. There’s still an awful lot we can learn. I think there’s a few tracks coming up, I’m looking forward to going to Singapore, I’m looking forward to going back to Mexico.

“Japan could be interesting for us, Brazil if it rains, so there’s still a lot to play for this year. The hardest races — Spa and Monza — we were on the podium at Spa, we could have been on the podium at Monza, so it’s not all bad,” he added.

Despite Singapore being a street circuit, Horner says that the team can't treat it the same way as Monaco. Red Bull took victory around the Monte Carlo streets in May at the hands of Daniel Ricciardo. But Horner isn't expecting to be so close to Mercedes and Ferrari this weekend.

"Hopefully we can be more competitive in Singapore,” he said . “Look, Singapore is not Monaco, there’s longer straights there and so on, but we were over a second away in qualifying at Monza. Hopefully we can get closer.

“We know in the race we are able to match what the leaders can do, and Singapore might be something other than a one-stop as well, so there’s more opportunities.”
