McLaren's racing director Eric Boullier had some pleasant comments for engine supplier Honda after yesterday's practice sessions. The Japanese manufacturer has brought a 'spec 3' upgrade this weekend in Austria, with both Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne ending the second practice session P8 and P12.
Honda has had a woeful season so far, so much so that the future of the McLaren-Honda partnership is in major doubt. However, after an encouraging start to this weekend, Boullier is hoping for more performance to come.
"It is just an evolution on the engine but clearly there is more performance coming out of the engine so we are going faster and getting more power with better usage of the engine," Boullier said. "This engine is a performance step compared to the other engines we used before. I think it is a three-year project that started from very far from where we would like to be.
"We had a bit of a setback at the beginning of the season but I think we can see now we are back on the right path to get back to the front which is where we want to be."

It did look pretty promising. Too bad it looks like Alonso wont race with the spec 3.
