Isola plays down Ferrari/Pirelli conspiracy

Pirelli chief Mario Isola has played down the theories that are suggesting Pirelli are helping Ferrari due to both being Italian manufacturers. Ferrari has evidently been able to make better use of the tyres so far this season in contrast to rivals Mercedes.

There have been accusations against both Pirelli and Ferrari, however, Isola has shot those comments down: "I have spoken with Wolff several times. He just said that Ferrari has learned to use the tyres better than Mercedes is able to do so at the moment. Ferrari has developed a very balanced car, in a year where the secret is to be able to have both the front and the rear tyres in the working window."

With Montreal being next up on the calendar, Pirelli will bring the ultra soft, the super soft and the soft compounds to the race. Isola has compared the track's surface to Sochi, and states strategy will play a key role in the outcome of the race.

"Montreal has many unique features, but with its smooth surface, it actually contains some similarities to Sochi. Last year the winner did one stop, while the second-placed driver made two stops using all three compounds, which just goes to show the very wide variety of strategies that are possible.

"Finding the right set-up, with the correct aerodynamic and mechanical balance, is never easy in Montreal: this is one of the key factors to making the tyres work effectively there. It’s also important to take an open-minded approach to strategy, given the variable weather and safety cars that are historically possible."
