Lewis Hamilton does not think that Fernando Alonso will move to Mercedes in the near future. Alonso's future has been cast into doubt after he has been very vocal about his disappointment with McLaren-Honda.
Many relish the thought of seeing Hamilton go up against Alonso again in the same car, however Hamilton feels that it just isn't going to happen.
"It's not going to happen," he said. "If you have got two kilos on either side, and then take the two kilos off and put four on, what is the point? You need the balance," he said.
Mercedes signed Valtteri Bottas to replace Nico Rosberg at the start of the year, but have since admitted that they are keeping their options open for 2018. Toto Wolff is happy with how he has seen Hamilton and Bottas working together so far.
"Again here he is only two tenths behind Lewis, which is a strong performance given how great Hamilton's (qualifying) lap was," he said. "I am also very happy about how well Lewis and Valtteri work together."
Some have suggested that Bottas will not be able to rise to the challenge of competing for a top team, however, four time world champion Alain Prost thinks that te Finn is fully capable.
"There are drivers who are strong in a smaller team and then weaker after changing to a big team," he told Bild am Sonntag newspaper. "But with Valtteri, I have the impression that it could be the opposite."

What does this even mean? If you follow his example, you still have perfect balance only 2 kilos heavier! Did he mean put 4 kilos on one side only? In that case, who does he reckon is heaviest, him or Ferdy? What a weird thing to say...

Just Hamilton attempting to sound philosophic, with about the same success as Jayden Smith, or about the same success Konami had when they relased Silent Hill: The Pachinko Machine.
To translate it: he is basically saying 2 big names in one team is a bad idea, and I disagree, seeing as it seems to be working well at other teams.

If Mercedes lose team championship because Bottas can't deliver like Hamilton did last year, then no one is going to ask about his opinion
