Ricciardo would like Renault upgrade "as soon as possible"

Red Bull Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo hopes that Renault can produce an engine upgrade soon to get them closer to Mercedes and Ferrari. Red Bull was left lacking behind in Australia two weeks ago and have so far disappointed in a season where they were predicted to be favourites to challenge Mercedes.

The Australian admitted that the chassis is also not up to scratch with their rivals ahead of them, although team principal Christian Horner says that the upgrades are "looking promising".

Ricciardo also denied that the big problem with the Red Bull is the loss of a 'trick' suspension system: "I don't think so," he said in Shanghai. "And the team doesn't think so. It seems to me, and I think it's true for Max (Verstappen) as well, that we can't attack the corners as aggressively as Ferrari and Mercedes can."

Renault has announced that they will be bringing a major engine upgrade to the Canadian Grand Prix, however, it is scheduled to go ahead in June and Ricciardo would like the upgrade as soon as possible.

"It would be nice if we get it at least the race before, but if we get it in Canada, we get it in Canada. But you always want to make it happen as soon as possible," Ricciardo added.

  • I think Ricciardo is disappointed with Red Bull, I imagine he expected he could fight this year.. He may still do but he is an outside bet now
