Red Bull was predicted to be the team to turn up the pace for this season and take a title challenge to Mercedes. However, if the Australian Grand Prix weekend is anything to go by, the Milton Keyes based team currently sit behind Mercedes and Ferarri.
Daniel Ricciardo failed to finish his home race, and Max Verstappenen came across the line in P5. It was a rather unspectacular start of the season for them, however Verstappen thinks that the team can improve quickly.
"It's no drama. The goal was obviously to sit a little further forward, we still drove in fifth and scored some points, so I'm sure we will improve. The possibilities are enormous."
Verstappen enters his third season as a Formula 1 driver, and at the tender age of 19 is already a race winner. Despite his initial, non-upgraded RB13 doesn't appear to be a race winner, he admits that the car is fun to drive.
"The new cars are in any case a lot more fun to drive. All the way in qualifying, when we run with little fuel, the cars are much more stable in fast corners. Due to the wider tyres, it is much more difficult to catch the car if you lose control. But if you keep the car on track, it is a pleasure to drive it."
