Williams' Deputy Team Principal Claire Williams says that Felipe Massa will be vital on improving the team in 2017. Massa re-joins Williams after ending his short retirement when Valtteri Bottas joined Mercedes at the start of this year.
Massa joined Williams in 2014 after a long stint at Ferrari and will partner rookie Lance Stroll this year. Williams thinks that his experience will massively benefit the team going forward.
"Felipe's obviously done 15 years in Formula 1, he's one of the most experienced drivers on the grid," she said. "Going into a year when you have a clean sweep when it comes to the technical regulations, Felipe's going to bring an enormous amount to the table, particularly from an engineering side.
"It's going to probably be a year when you see a huge amount of development on these cars from when they first take to the track in testing and then going to the first race in Australia.
"Someone like Felipe – who's not only great in the car and consistent, which will be important when it comes to testing – will also be able to help with the development process right from the very start. So he will be instrumental in driving change and driving performance to the FW40 this year."
