Nico Rosberg rounded out the second practice session on top with a lap time of 1 minute 44.152.
Rosberg was over two and a half tenths ahead of Kimi Raikkonen. The two Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo followed in third and fourth respectively.
The second Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel was fifth, a whole second off the pace. Nico Hulkenberg finished in sixth ahead of world champion Lewis Hamilton after he suffered hydraulic issues which ended his session pre-maturely.
Eight was Carlos Sainz in a Toro Rosso that is targeting points this weekend. Coming home in ninth was Fernando Alonso and completing the top ten was the other Toro Rosso of Daniil Kvyat.
The surprise in the session was the little performance difference between the super-soft and ultra-soft tyres which could alter pre-assumed strategies.
