Voorzitter Miles: "McLaren werkt aan de benodigde zaken voor IndyCar-zitje"

Het is nog niet zeker dat Fernando Alonso in 2019 verschijnt in de IndyCar, maar McLaren werkt wel hard om een stoeltje te regelen. Dat stelt Mark Miles, voorzitter van de IndyCar. Volgens Miles heeft het nieuws van Alonso heel wat losgemaakt bij de IndyCar-fans.

"De bekendmaking was erg opwindend voor IndyCar-fans, die hopen dat Alonso in 2019 deelneemt aan het volledige kampioenschap", aldus Miles. "McLaren werkt hard om de benodigde zaken te regelen en we steunen hun poging."

Ondanks dat McLaren al een tijdje bezig is met het optuigen van een IndyCar-programma, verwacht Miles niet dat een aankondiging van Alonso op de korte termijn zal plaatsvinden. "Ik verwacht niet dat dit geregeld is voor het einde van het jaar."

Despite the talk about Alonso to IndyCar dying down in recent weeks Andretti revealed that McLaren chief Zak Brown will approach the subject with the double world champion during the ongoing F1 summer break.
  “It was put to Alonso if he wants to do a partial season and he said no. If he does it, he wants to do the whole thing or not at all,” Andretti said, as quoted on Grand Prix 247.
  Andretti is keen for Alonso to join his team and do a full season in IndyCar, but admitted they will need a decision from McLaren before the end of the month, as they will need time to ensure they can put together a competitive package for the Spaniard to immediately start challenging for wins.

Laat McLaren zich nou volledig richten op de F1, zonder focus blijft het niks en wordt het niks. Dus alle andere projecten afstoten, alleen nog F1 en zorgen dat ze weer opkrabbelen van achterhoede naar middenmoot en hopelijk weer verder naar waar ze ooit aanwezig waren.
