Renault entering attack mode after 3 years of preparation

The Executive Director of Renault F1, Marcin Budkowski has said that the team is ready to attack for the championship after three years of preparation. In 2018 Renault achieved 4th place in the constructors battle, which was their best result since 2008 but they are aiming higher.

Budkowski spoke of the team's strategy, working towards long term goals rather than seeking instant results which can't be capitalised upon the following year. He was also honest in his criticism of the team's progress but positive that the results will improve and that they will be able to challenge for championships.

"After three years of construction, three years of attack are beginning," he said, "We do not work for the short term. We could have done better last year if the short term had been our goal."

Budkowski then added that their goal "is to build a team capable of being world champions" and insisted that Renault is investing heavily in the future generations.

"We don't just hire experienced people, but mostly young people coming out of university. We invest in the future. We are not looking for immediate results as we are still building the team".

He questioned Renault's success in achieving 4th place in 2018: "Did we do a great job in terms of car development? The answer is no. Our progress was inherently worse than 2017 and we are aware of it."

Budkowski finished by saying that they are disappointed at not being nearer the front of the grid, "but that drives us to change things in the way we operate".
