Norris keen on Alonso's input at McLaren in 2019

Lando Norris says that Fernando Alonso's input and feedback at McLaren in 2019 would be very valuable for the Woking squad. Alonso has left the team as a racing driver, but reports say that he could still hold an integral role for the upcoming season.

McLaren CEO Zak Brown admitted that the Spaniard could test the car next year, and aid the team's resurgence back to the front of the field. McLaren ended the 2018 season towards the rear of the grid, losing out in the development race to its rivals.

Norris will partner Carlos Sainz at McLaren next year, with Stoffel Vandoorne leaving to take part in the 2018/19 season of Formula E. Alonso has not fully closed the door on his F1 career, hinting that he could return in the right conditions. And Norris says that any input next season would be of great value to the team

"I think it’ll be very valuable,” the 2018 Formula 2 runner-up said. “He’s obviously got the best idea of how the car has changed over the years, the best experience of what’s good and what’s bad – a lot more than I do. Obviously, I don’t know what’s going to happen, if he’s still going to be part of McLaren, he still is part of McLaren, I guess a lot is up to him.

"Of course, I would like to have as many days as possible but if everyone comes to a decision and thinks it’s for the good of the whole team and his feedback would be just as important as mine or Carlos’ then I think it’s a good thing. But I think there’s a long way to go until we see what he wants to do and if he wants to get in an F1 car again.”

McLaren and Alonso will enter the 2019 Indianapolis 500 together, with Andretti Autosport believed to be providing some technical support for the entry. The Spaniard will also return to the Daytona 24 Hours in 2019, and he is set to reveal more racing plans in the coming weeks.
