Renault looking to make gains with floor "evolution"

Renault is hoping to continue making gains on its floor, as it brings another upgrade to the Russian Grand Prix next weekend. The Enstone squad brought a new floor to Spa at the end of August along with a series of other aerodynamic parts.

It will now bring a new floor upgrade to Sochi as it aims to solidify its position of fourth place in the constructor's standings. Renault currently sits 15 points ahead of Haas as last time out in Singapore, Carlos Sainz and Nico Hulkenberg bagged five points for the team, while Haas failed to finish inside the top ten.

Technical director Nick Chester said: “We have floor updates for Sochi - this is an evolution from the update we saw in Spa and this should give us a small gain. We ran updated bargeboards and sidepod vanes in Singapore and they behaved as expected, so we will use these again in Russia."

With just six races left to run in the 2018 season, Renault's managing director Cyril Abiteboul believes that the team can't lose focus on the development of its 2018 car as it pushes to finish as the 'best of the rest': “We have some further upgrades and mechanical tweaks we hope to give some further stability,” he said.

“Singapore has confirmed once again how tight the competition is at the moment as well as the competitiveness of the top teams – even at circuits we expect to play to our strengths. We need to keep pushing in every area and take points when we can as we know our adversaries will do the same.”

  • It could very well be RB vs Renault next year, depending on if Renault can keep it up.

...And if Honda keeps up the good work they did. Let's hope they don't crap up like in 2017 after 2016 good showing.
