Force India has confirmed that Lance Stroll had a seat fitting at the team's factory ahead of an expected move later this year. Stroll's father Lawrence bought out the team over the summer break, pulling it from administration and saving over 400 jobs.
Stroll has been heavily linked to a race seat at Force India, however any deal is likely to happen following the Singapore Grand Prix: “He came and had a look around and did a seat fit,” said team principal Otmar Szafnauer. “So he fits in the car, just in case.”
Stroll's switch to the Silverstone-based squad is likely to come at the expense of Esteban Ocon. The Mercedes junior driver's future is uncertain, but Szafnauer couldn't confirm anything as he claims nothing has been decided.
"As we sit here today I don’t know, I cannot predict, I can’t tell you, mainly because it hasn’t been decided, he said. "And for that to happen I’m sure a lot of other stuff has to happen and it’s not just a switch.”
Stroll had his seat fitting on the Tuesday following the Belgian Grand Prix. After his visit to the factory, technical director Andy Green said that there a few things that Force India has to change in order to get Stroll comfortable in the car.
"What we wanted to do was make sure there was nothing we needed to change on next year’s car, subtly for him," he said. "There were a few things we need to change, which we caught just in time.”
