Pirelli says that a one-stop strategy around the Monza circuit will be the quickest way to complete the Italian Grand Prix. Drivers will have the super soft, soft and medium compounds available for use during the race.
However, it is unlikely that the white-walled medium tyre will be used throughout by any of the teams. The top ten drivers will start on the super soft tyres, as they advanced from Q2 using the softest tyre available to them.
“We would expect a one-stopper if conditions remain dry, based on the supersoft and soft," said Pirelli F1 boss Mario Isola. "This could still change if the track conditions turn out to be very different from what we have seen so far.
"With the field seemingly very closely matched, and the tyres able to deliver optimal performance in a wide variety of conditions, we should see a hard-fought and rapid race tomorrow at a circuit well-known for its pure speed. Congratulations to Kimi Raikkonen and Ferrari for setting the record lap.”
Drivers that will start on the super soft tyre should expect to enter the pits on lap 25-30 to switch on to the soft compound. Conversely, those starting on the soft tyre should run to lap 30-35 before fitting the super soft compound for a short stint to the end of the Grand Prix.
