Sergio Perez believes Force India can be the 'best of the rest' at qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix. The pink panthers showed strong pace on Friday, ending free practice two in seventh and eighth place.

Perez topped the morning session that was affected by rain. Towards the end of running, the track began to dry out and Perez capitalised on the changing conditions, crossing the line to pip Kimi Raikkonen to the top spot. Having tested all the compounds on Friday, Perez says is happy with the car.

“It was a good day and I am fairly confident about our performance level," he said. "Friday times don’t mean much but it’s still nice to finish the morning session as the fastest driver. In the afternoon we worked on our race set-up and we found a very good baseline.

"I am definitely looking forward to qualifying because we have a good chance to be the best of the rest no matter what the weather does. We were able to run on all compounds and in all conditions, so we are well prepared,” the Mexican added.

Perez claims that his future is sorted and that he has signed a deal with the team he is racing with for 2019. While it is expected that he will stay at Force India, the 28-year-old has been linked to Haas and a return to McLaren.

When asked about the McLaren situation, he said: "If I had guarantees that I could be competitive, and there was a great project behind everything, then why not? But I would have to know the details of their plans better, to understand the situation of the team."

And now that Force India's financial situation is secured for the future, Perez says that good things lie ahead for the Silverstone outfit: "There is no doubt that the best of this team is coming. The goal is to be a competitive team in the coming seasons and I think it is possible to even be among the top three."
