Hulkenberg receives 10-place grid penalty for Monza

Nico Hulkenberg has been handed a 10-place grid penalty for next weekend's Italian Grand Prix after being deemed to have caused a collision at the start of the Belgian Grand Prix.

Hulkenberg hit into the rear of Fernando Alonso as the cars ploughed into the opening corner. Alonso was then sent spectacularly flying over the top of Charles Leclerc's Sauber, with photos capturing evident damage to Leclerc's Halo.

The crash put all three drivers out of the race immediately, and Alonso moved to criticise the German's driving following the collision. Hulkenberg admitted that the incident was his fault, saying that he simply misjudged his braking zone.

“It is just incredible to often find out again on lap 1 how sensitive these cars are with aerodynamics," he said. “When you have a few cars that bunch up in front of you, how much grip and load you lose.

“I hit the brakes and obviously I instantly locked up the front wheels and just went sliding into Fernando. Yeah, probably a misjudgement from my side, a bit too late on the brakes. A bit took keen, and frustrating for him, Charles and myself.”

  • Im not sure if I feel this penalty is harsh enough. But then again its an easy mistake to make... Not that I expect such from Hulk really.

Same penalty as changing a worn out electrical component . . . how very F1.

I have just watched Grosjean at the 2012 race, and i must admit Hulkenberg got a lower penalty in my opinion.

He's just unlucky he doesn't drive for antoher team or he would have gotten no penalty at all.

CL probably would have been killed if not for the halo. I had a bad feeling someone would get killed this season.
