Ferrucci to remain on Haas F1 programme

Santino Ferrucci will remain a part of the Haas F1 team despite his recent controversy in Formula 2. After he purposely crashed into teammate Arjun Maini, the American received a four-race F2 ban before having his contract with Trident terminated.

The 20-year-old joined the Haas programme in 2016, and has made a number of test outings for the team. His future on the programme was in heavy doubt following his behaviour in F2, which also involved driving his car from the support race paddock to the race pitlane wearing just one glove and holding a mobile phone.

However, Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has confirmed that Ferrucci will remain with them, as they evaluate his performance in IndyCar. Having made his debut in Detroit earlier this year, he will return to the series for the final two rounds of the season.

"I think we’ll keep him for the time being on the programme. We’ll see what he’s going to do in IndyCar and stay with that one," Steiner said. "The guy is trying to make a career, and we don’t want to pull the rug from under his feet."

  • Not good enough for F2 but good enough for Haas F1. Got it.

For the first time i completly disagree with Steiner.
I hope he never gets close to a F1 car at any time.

    • Steiner has rejected other more experienced drivers (who also didn't have record of stupidity on track) because they didn't have enough experience or whatever. Rossi was one of those. But yet they keep Ferrucci around? Give me a break... I really hope we don't end up with another pay driver on the grid.

  • Not a very good PR move. He really sold his teams teddy bears full of c** back there, and he really dont deserve the honour of being a test driver.
