Toto Wolff believes that there is no clear favourite to take victory at this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix. Formula 1 returns after its usual summer break on Friday, with Spa-Francorchamps hosting the 13th round of the 2018 season.
This year has seen a tightly contested battle between Mercedes and Ferrari, with just 10 points currently separating the duo in the constructor's standings. There has been no real indication over which team is faster, as it has changed weekend-to-weekend this season.
And Wolff doesn't see how anyone can make a sure prediction heading into the next stage of the season: "It’s very difficult to make any predictions for Spa. If this season has taught us one thing, it’s that there are no clear favourites for specific tracks anymore and that it’s not always the fastest car that wins.
"Instead, the competitive balance seems to swing back and forth from circuit to circuit. What is clear is that our competitors are pushing extremely hard and put up a very tough fight.
“So we need to keep our heads down, work hard to eliminate our weaknesses and further build on our strengths, and take the season race by race. 2018 promises to be a season that we will still be talking about in years to come and we can’t wait to get out there and start racing again.”
With Spa and Monza next on the agenda for F1, the circuits on paper suit Ferrari more, who has proven to be extremely efficient in a straight line. Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton leads rival Sebastian Vettel by 24 points with 9 Grands Prix left to run.
