McLaren CEO Zak Brown says that Fernando Alonso has not yet decided on his future. It is uncertain where the Spaniard will end up in 2019, with some speculating that the double-world champion could be off to the US to race in IndyCar.
Alonso has spent the last four years with McLaren, but is yet to finish on the podium since returning to Woking in 2015. Brown has admitted that Alonso could end up in IndyCar next year, but so far nothing has been decided: "He likes the series but hasn't decided yet what he wants to do as it relates to formula one. But our decision is not Fernando dependent."
Should Alonso make the jump to IndyCar, it could present an opportunity for McLaren and Michael Andretti to collaborate once more, as they did at the 2017 Indianapolis 500. However, Andretti has set a mid-August deadline for Alonso.
"I hadn't heard that he put a date out there," Brown said. "But we are going to have to make a decision soon. Right now, we're laser-focused on formula one. We have driver decisions to make. We just hired a new technical director. That being said, we feel we still have time to make a decision on Indycar for 2019."

I'm a huge Alonso fan, for his driving skills, I can't say I'm impressed by how he's handled things in the teams he's been in, he seems to have a habit of shooting himself in the foot with his predilection for so called "politics". That being said, I really wish he takes a sabbatical next year, it his heartbreaking seeing one of the best of all time in that crapper of a McLaren. Maybe hell get lucky in 2020, there is a chance Vettel or Hamilton retires, then and only then will Ferrari or Mercedes consider hiring Alonso.

No top team will touch him. He's too political... however maybe Renault in 2019
