Carey also eyeing New York and Las Vegas

Miami is not the only US city on F1 owner Liberty Media's radar. It has emerged that authorities are close to giving the green-light for a Miami street race for 2019. In addition to Austin, it would be the second Grand Prix in the United States.

World champion Lewis Hamilton said Miami is a "great party spot" full of "beautiful women", but he is not enthused about the proposed layout: "It's not the one. Let me design it," he wrote on social media.

There may be other American races on the cards anyway. F1 chief executive Chase Carey told RTL: "We've made it clear from day one that our goal is to continue to develop the sport in the US. We have talked about 'destination cities' like Miami, New York and Las Vegas," he added.

Carey insisted, however, that adding more races in America doesn't mean F1 is walking away from its European heritage: "I want to make it very clear that this is not at the expense of Formula 1 in Europe," he said. "Europe is the foundation of this sport, its homeland, and as far as I'm concerned that will always be the case."

So they could be aiming for 4 races in the US? Reminds me of comments recently that features on the car should have simplified names like "speed wing" instead of DRS ?

I guess he doesn't understand what boring "parking lot" races in stupid locations will do to the "European" interest in the sport. Nobody watches Formula E, so why are these people bending over backwards to copy their "tracks"?

F1 will no longer be F1, just another boring series like Formula E and Indycar racing around cities in search of an audience.

Eye it all you want. 1 race is sufficient. 2 are excessive, 3 are pure avarice. If you are to make this Formula U.S, give us good tracks.

  Im not saying thats their intention, jut you know, there are other potential venues around. Scabdinavia and the Netherlands to mention just 2.

  I understand the skepticism, but keep in mind that Liberty is a for-profit business looking for ROI on their investment. I don't think, unlike Bernie, that they would organize races in a random place just to collect promoter fees (e.g. Turkey, Korea, India, and yes Indianapolis). Regarding the argument regarding street circuits, as discussed before, I think that it would need to be debated. Surely they are aware of what people hate about most street circuits, I don't see why they would get more of the same.

  I don't think you'll find too many people sad that Bernie is gone. On the contrary, most people celebrate his absence. These news regarding more races in the U.S. is nothing compared to Bernie's ideas of doing races in countries were people don't know or care about F1, or can't afford to attend. Istanbul, Korea, India). Also it's worth noting that it was under his tenure that we lost Imola, the old Hockenheim Ring, Magny Cours, Nurburgring (short)., and almost lost Monza multiple times because that asshole knickled and dimed the hell out of every race promoter like damn parasite, until the promoter ran out of money or goodwill with their respective governments.

  Bernie should be jailed for being a corrupt old geezer. I mostly think they have been good for F1 so far, but Im afraid that some of their decisions might come more from a business perspective than from an "is this entertaining" perspective.

  But would it have the arguably most important aspect: a decent race? The rest is redundant if the actual show isnt fun.
