Brendon Hartley has apologised for the incident in which he and his team-mate Pierre Gasly were involved in Q1. The strange moment took place at the end of Q1 before Turn 15. Hartley was going slowly and he nearly took out Pierre Gasly. The Frenchman had to take the escape road to avoid what could have been a massive accident.

"It was a disaster, pretty upset about that. I hadn't put a lap on the board before then both times yellow flags on my lap. Then I clipped the wall and through the left hander I knew I had an issue and slowed down, I was unaware Pierre was so close behind me." Hartley explained the situation after the qualifying session ended.

"Obviously I was going half speed, trying to figure how bad the problem was and I completely messed it up. The problem is, with the walls, you don't see them coming.

I made a big mistake, I'm sorry for him. I owe him a big apology for getting in the way and nearly causing a huge accident. I'm disappointed how that went down. Not a good day." Hartley concluded.

Brendon Hartley will start the Azerbaijan Grand Prix from the last row of the grid as he finished 19th in the qualifying, while Pierre Gasly managed to place himself two places above the New Zeelander.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will commence tomorrow at 2:10 PM GMT time.
