McLaren has brought its new car, the MCL33, to life after firing the car up at the McLaren Technology Centre. The new car will be McLaren's first powered by Renault, having ended its partnership with Honda at the end of 2017.

Three years of unreliability and poor pace took its toll last year, with the Woking team ultimately deciding to end things with Honda. It then struck up a deal with French manufacturer Renault in the hope of returning to the front of the field.

Now the new challenger, which is rumoured to have a papaya livery, has been fired up. Take a look at the video below.

It looks a whole lot better than while watching A Grand Prix Driver episode with Honda engine problematic fire up.

Sounds nice but for all we know that bit of video may have been proceeded by an episode like the Honda one on Grand Prix Driver. (P.S. GPD a very interesting programme on Amazon and a 'must watch' for McLaren supporters IMHO).

    • lol let's hope not. I don't see how Renault could have possibly regressed from providing the engine that won 3 races and got 10+ podiums in 2017 to something like Honda

    • Lets not fool ourselves here, it wasnt thanks to the Renault engine Red Bull won those races, it was despite the Renault engine. I dont see Renault regressing, but its a race of who can develop faster. As a Honda fan I naturally have a degree of bias here, but Honda is capable of some fast development if they put their ass to it. Thats what they need to do now if they want to snatch the main Red Bull team.

  • Be brave... Sounds good, doesnt work. McLaren ask for hype when all they need and should ask for is patience. Thats why my interest in McLaren is waning and my favour of teams like Renault and Force India is growing: they go at it with a cautious but optimistic attitude, and I think that has paid off for them, and I also think things will just get better for them, while McLaren is now stuck as a customer to a supplier known to not have very happy customers.
