Kimi Raikkonen has said that Ferrari is looking for a good result whatever the weekend's weather brings. Suzuka's second Friday practice session had very limited running because of the heavy rain that fell throughout the session, leading to only a handful of drivers setting a timed lap, with some drivers not leaving the garage whatsoever, Raikkonen himself only doing a single installation lap.
Most of the teams opted to save their wet weather tires during the session as more wet weather is forecast to affect other parts of the weekend, and for most teams it was not worth the risk of wrecking the car in the treacherous conditions and additional tire usage.
Ferrari has shown very little form in wet weather so far this season, having qualified for their home Grand Prix in Monza poorly in the wet conditions, with both cars over two seconds away from Lewis Hamilton's pole time, and both cars failed to get past the first corner in the Singapore Grand Prix, with these poor sessions representing the only competitive wet running so far this season.
Raikkonen said this on the tricky conditions and hopes for the weekend: "Today we were expecting to have difficult conditions in the afternoon, so we focused on the morning session, we did a little bit more running and generally, we worked on our programme like every other Friday. Overall it was not bad and the feeling was ok.
"In the afternoon we did not even try to learn anything; we are limited on tyres and we have to save the full wet compound in case qualifying is run in wet conditions. It’s a pity because we did not do a lot of laps, but at least we have got some ideas. As for tomorrow, let’s wait and see what happens in the morning and then through the day. Whatever it will be, we are going to do our best."
