Charlie Whiting, Formula 1's Race Director has completed a trip to Buenos Aires in which he explored the possibility of a return for Formula 1. The Brit made an informal visit to the Autódromo Juan y Oscar Gálvez, evaluating the state of the track and is reported to be satisfied with his findings.

The Argentine Grand Prix has been held twenty-one times before, with the last event coming in 1998, won by Ferrari's Michael Schumacher. The first race held in the capital of Argentina was in 1953, when Alberto Ascari came out on top. Argentine hero Juan Manuel Fangio is very successful around the track, having won four times.

Whiting did point out that some improvements needed to be made to the circuit in order for it to qualify for an FIA Grade 1 license. It joins a list of potential returnees, as Turkey and Portugal are aiming to make it back onto the calendar, and Liberty Media hoping to add a second US race to the roster.
