Stoffel Vandoorne has said he is happy his improved performance at this weekend’s British Grand Prix.
Vandoorne has so far struggled at McLaren this season, with questions beginning to circle the driver’s performance compared to Fernando Alonso. He had failed to outqualify Alonso at any race this season and has yet to score a point this season.
But at this weekends Grand Prix he outqualified Alonso for the first time, achieving 8th place on the grid. He could also have scored his first point of the season had he not had a slow pit stop that lost him what could have been tenth place to Felipe Massa.
He said in terms of his perfomance ahead of today's race: "In fact I never doubted it, but the start of the season was not easy after all the problems. It was also necessary to change the relationship with the team in terms of setting up the car to move a little more in my direction. Lately I think things are in a good direction for me, I feel more and more comfortable and confident."
