Hulkenberg ready for any teammate in 2018

Two huge names are being linked to the Renault seat for the 2018 season creating the prospect of a hugely challenging teammate for the German. Former driver Robert Kubica, who hasn't driven in F1 since the 2010 season due to injury and Fernando Alonso who is desperately seeking a more competitive drive for next season both represent huge potential challenges for next season.

Kubica has been edging closer to what would be a remarkable return to the sport after his horrific rallying accident in 2011 meant it was highly likely he would never return to the sport. But the prospect of a return has become more and more likely after testing for Renault earlier in the year and recently driving in the Renault simulator. There are even rumours he could drive in free practice at the Hungarian Grand Prix with a view to taking Jolyon Palmer’s drive before the end of the season.

A return for Alonso to the team seems more unlikely, but would be an intriguing to drive for the team 12 years after he won his last world championship with them.

Hulkenberg discussing next year’s teammate said: "It's Renault's decision, not mine, and the team needs to choose the best drivers it can. I don't care if Kubica or Alonso come. As I said, I have no preference."

Then asked if a return for Kubica was really a possibility he responded with: "We all saw the severity of his injuries, but I cannot say what the current situation is. What is certain is that he was always a fighter, so that is absolutely in his favour”
