Alain Prost has said that a return to Renault for Fernando Alonso would be "an honour" for the Enstone team - but also that it is incapable of giving him the successful car he desires as early as 2018.
Alonso - currently struggling with the McLaren-Honda project - won both of his titles at Renault in 2005 and 2006, and whilst the team may not stand a chance of winning with him now, Prost admits that these achievements would make a return very special for them. Speaking to nextgen-auto.com, he said: "I think there are a lot of top drivers...we are a works team so it is true that there are quite a few drivers who consider that, maybe not tomorrow, but that after tomorrow we are going to be a very good team.
"In the case of Fernando, he was a World Champion with Renault more than 10 years ago so of course it would be an honour to have him. But, on the other hand, we know he wants to win right away and I don't think we can give him a car to win right away. It is therefore a difficult problem to resolve."
Other drivers who have also been linked to a Renault seat include Carlos Sainz, current third driver Sergey Sirotkin and Robert Kubica, who will soon take part in a second test for the team having recently run in Valencia. Many are hopeful for a return for the Pole, whose promising F1 career was curtailed by a 2011 rally crash, but Prost says that no decisions have been made regarding this.
"Robert has tested for us, and he will do another test session again but for now, we really can't comment further. It's very difficult to judge what may be possible or not," he added.

in other words:
If Alonso wants to come to Renault he is getting a contract.
Kubica could be Option B if he´s able to race the newer generation cars.
I don´t think they consider Sainz or Sirotkin..

So basically Renault are begging Alonso to come back?? This is just pathetically desperate. They just declared Renault are not going to win until 2019 which automatically means no Alonso consideration let alone talks to join Renault. Mclaren sold Alonso a very shiny bottle of snake oil and the results are plain to see, Alonso isn't going to go to a team that already declared incompetence for race winning form atleast another year.

Could be interesting.
But as said in other forums, Alonso is a world Champ in choosing the wrong teams at the wrong times.
