Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo says fourth on the grid for the Austrian Grand Prix was as good as the team could have hoped, due to the pace of Ferrari and Mercedes this weekend.
Ricciardo, who won the last round in dramatic fashion in Azerbaijan, clocked the fifth fastest time in qualifying, as Mercedes and Ferrari remain the teams to beat in the dry. However, he will move up to fourth, equalling his best qualifying this season, due to Lewis Hamilton's unscheduled gearbox change.
"I think it's as good as we could expect," said Ricciardo. "We were pretty close to Kimi [Räikkönen], about a tenth off, so it's nice to be in that hunt. It's my equal-best start of the year, but one place extra with Lewis' penalty. It would have been nice to close out that last lap, but there were a few yellow flags... everyone's just trying to find the limit, as we've seen this year."
Asked if he believes there is a chance for a podium in tomorrow’s race, Ricciardo smiled: "From fourth the top three theoretically should be easier. There might be a bit of rain coming around noon, so it's going to be an interesting race, I don't think it's going to be straightforward. Lewis will be trying to come up through the ranks as well."
