Vettel could face further action over Baku incident

The story between Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel and the incident in Baku may not be over yet, as FIA president Jean Todt is not happy with how the stewards dealt with the situation at the time.

Vettel swerved into Hamilton under the safety car after he felt Hamilton had brake tested him as they prepared for the restart. Vettel came under heavy fire post race. It is the second time in seven months that Vettel has been under heavy fire by the law-makers, as he was issued a formal warning after last year's Mexican Grand Prix.

Vettel was shouting abuse at race director Charlie Whiting over the radio due to an incident with Max Verstappen. This time, Vettel may face stricter punishment as Todt stated that repeat of unacceptable behaviour would be dealt with accordingly. It is expected later this week whether or not Vettel will face further action, which ranges from a fine to a race ban.

  This was pretty serious, even if it didn't cause an accident. At the very least he should get a public reprimand. He was unrepentant after the race. It's not the first time he has acted erratically. There's a bit of a pattern with a Vettel.

Jean Todt, this is not Bernies F1 any longer. In years past Lewis was never fined, never penalized for things he has done. F1 viewership is down. The last race was the best viewing in years. Lewis was being a turd with his move on Vettel. He has always been that way that type of driver. Vettel didn't need to pull that move. Move on.

Jesus f*****g christ this is stupid. Vettel was punished much harder than he should've been, while the instigator (who basically tried to cheat to give him the upper hand in the WC) didn't gave any consequences.
If they're not gonna punish Hamilton, whatever... just move on already.

  Damn right something needs to be done about Hamilton's SCD handling, a harsh punishment is in order to deter anyone from trying that BS again.

  Telemetry showed that Hamilton was not break testing or going slower than required. Nobody has even discussed the possibility of a punishment. What exactly are you referring to?

  I cheer for Vettel, but I think he did deserve the penalty. However, I think Hamilton should've been handed some kind of penalty aswell, he did after all 'start it'.
  
  @APENNYJACKER: On the opposite, there are clear pictures of Hamilton braking right before Vettel ran into his rear. You do generally not brake after a corner, its not efficient in a race, or safe in races or behind a safety car.

Vettle's behaviour was inexcusable. They were nowhere near the restart location where the SC was to dive off. Vettle needed to back off. If any of us were driving too closely and hit someone, we're at fault. Did the punishment fit the crime? That's the dabatable part, but it's done and dusted. Don't do it again Seb.

No matter what happened beofre Vettel carried on in Baku, nothing justifies his action; thera are authorities that manage incidents and you are not to reinforcethe law.

I find it surprising that an F1 car needs to use any braking following a SC so Hammy was spoiling as usual. The stewards have spoken so move on otherwise why bother with stewards. Americas Cup syndrome is growing.

This is crazy, hamilton accelerated into the corner to gain advantage of heating his crappy pirelli's and slowed mid corner and stabbed the brakes after it right before vettle hit him, rewatch the replay of hamilton's car showing the throttle /brake overlay, it shows his brake use right before the hit, vettle didnt try to hit hamilton on the side by side but when he took his hands off the wheel the car moved slightly to the right and the tires made contact, the contact was made probably less than 10 kph and the cars are wider this year i'm sure the drivers are still adjusting side by side driving. the racing gods gave hamilton the penalty by releasing his head restraint. its a wash for penalties and vettle shoudn't have any license points deducted.

  lol you seriously suggest what Vettel did was not intentional? Not even after his behavior after the race? Not even after the footage that clearly shows him steering? You're delusional if you can't see it.
