Eric Boullier admits that he has contracts to negotiate with Honda. McLaren and Honda's relationship has deteriorated in 2017 as the Japanese manufacturer has failed to deliver a competitive engine for the third year running.

There have been reports hat the two are close to a divorce, with McLaren interested in returning to Mercedes power. Boullier stated that McLaren has to negotiate with Honda, but that it may not mean anything detrimental.

"There is no actual deadline but there are decisions to be made, procedures to be followed and contracts to negotiate, so it's impossible to define a date," Boullier said. "I did not say we are going to part with Honda. It simply means that no matter what the solution, it must include a new contract and new ambitions,"

Despite the struggles, Boullier believes that Honda will be able to sort their problems out: "Yes, we still trust Honda because they have the resources and the will to do it," Boullier told AS newspaper. "What I'm not sure about is the time it will take. That is the key."

I think all the criticism of the last few weeks, and all rumours about Mercedes and Alfa Romeo, has solely been to put pressure on Honda. I would want to see them race with another engine (don't care which one), but last week Japanese press stated that Jonathan Neale had been in Sakura to negotiate a new contract with Honda. According to them, McLaren wants performance clauses in the contract and Honda wants to turn down the amount of its sponsorship deal with the team.

If I read this article, I get the feeling that McLaren wants to continue with Honda, and they are indeed in contract negotiations..
