Sauber is hoping that it can announce a new team principal soon, following the unexpected departure of Monisha Kaltenborn. It was announced on Wednesday morning that Kaltenborn was no longer part of the team after taking the role of team principal in 2012.
Team Manager Beat Zehnder is overseeing developments in Azerbaijan this weekend, alongside Technical Director Jörg Zander. It is not yet completely clear who will take the position, with names such as Dave Ryan, Colin Kolles and Fred Vasseur linked with the role.
"Jörg Zander and myself have been entrusted to run the operation of the team this weekend, but this is only temporary," Zehnder stated. "It doesn't change a lot for us, because our job is to have two cars running as quickly as possible around the circuit, but for me it's a bit more media work! We're talking to some candidates and we hope to announce it sooner than later."
Kaltenborn parted company with Sauber due to a different ideology than financial backers Longbow Finance. Longbow said after the decision had been made that Kaltenborn had left "by mutual consent and due to diverging views of the future of the company".

Does it even matter at this point? Sauber have been absolutely dire the last few years, I like them as a team but they seem lost without any substantial backing

Problem I have with them is that even now that they have backing, they keep making decisions that seem to indicate they're content to just participate rather than looking to be competitive.
Picking Honda engines (probably without a gearbox) is just impossible to square with a desire to be competitive.
