After a troublesome 2016, Renault has already beaten the amount of points they scored last year, as they currently sit in the standings on 18 points. However, that tally of points after seven races is not something the French car manufacturer takes pleasure in.

2017 is therefore still a learning year for them transitioning back into running an F1 team. This is also evident from the words of technical director Nick Chester. He revealed that the factory has already begun with the car for 2018: "Some designers are already working on the car for next season."

Renault's design Department on 1 July will get reinforcement in the person of Peter Machin, an aerodynamics specialist who comes from Red Bull Racing. Director Cyril Abiteboul:  "He’s with us to fill the position of head of aerodynamics

"In this respect, if the workplace all goes according to plan. We have about twenty percent more manpower for the chassis area. The factory is ready. We are under great pressure to score more points than we do, but we also know that it just takes time. "

    • I think its a mistake. Shift focus now, and they'll risk losing out against their rivals this year, and they currently face quite a few rivals this year.
