Max Verstappen thinks that the 2017 season could be considered successful for Red Bull if they manage to get in reach of Mercedes and Ferrari and fight for victories by the end of the season. 2017 has so far been a difficult year for the Milton Keyes squad as they have not come close to their pre-season predictions.
So far, the team has claimed three podiums in six races, but are yet to get a sniff at a race win. 2017 was expected to play into the hands of Red Bull with a new set of aerodynamic regulations being put in place. While they remain far behind the front-runners, there's hope they can pull back the deficit as the season wears on.
"If we close the gap, and that we're fighting for victories at the end of the season,” Verstappen said. "At the moment that's still not the case, we have to focus race by race if we can improve on the car. We need more grip on the car, as soon as we have more grip then even if the car drives a bit differently I'll adapt to the situation. I think that's the key."
