Fernando Alonso admits that he is not ready to think about taking part in the 2018 Indy 500, one day after tragically pulling trackside over at Indianapolis. Alonso was in the mix for the victory before his Honda engine expired, and the Spaniard was forced into a painful retirement.
While he has previously voiced his intentions to win the Triple Crown, he says that he is not ready to think about coming back next year yet: "I have enjoyed it a lot, it was one of the best experiences of my career, but I am not ready to say something else about it," he said.
"I saw smoke and said 'It's over', but it was a great experience," the McLaren driver is quoted by Spain's Diario Sport. "The race was very good, our performance was good, I was in the lead several times in front of the big names of Indycar -- we were in it," Alonso added.
It is speculated that Alonso will only make a decision on wether or not he will come back next year when he knows what his primary plans are for 2018. Many suggest that if he leaves McLaren-Honda ffor a more competitive team in Formula 1, he won't be back in 12 months time. However, the Spaniard has already confirmed he will make a return at some point in the future.
