Jenson Button is adamant that Monaco was his last ever qualifying session but claims that it was his most enjoyable. Button returned to Monaco on a once off, replacing former teammate Fernando Alonso who will compete in the Indy 500 tomorrow.
Button ended the session in P9 and made his first appearance in Q3 since the Malaysian Grand Prix in 2016. Despite an excellent qualifying result, Button will drop down to the back of the grid after the MGU-H and turbocharger were changed and went over the allocated limit in what is effectively Fernando Alonso's car.
"If I was P9 and hadn't been away I'd be more disappointed, he said. "It's been a great weekend and I've had fun. Q3 I didn't enjoy so much because I'd been out of the car for 10 minutes and I didn't know where the limit of the car was. I've been driving within myself which is a shame but you have to around Monaco so to be P9 I'm very happy. I've enjoyed the weekend a lot.
"It's my last qualifying session but probably my most enjoyable. The penalty still hurts, it doesn't matter how many races you've done. They told me yesterday and I was like 'Ohhh'. It's a shame but it's never easy. It's Fernando's fault."
Button's entry into this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix puts him second on the all-time number of entries list with 309, behind former teammate Rubens Barrichello.
