Lewis Hamilton has said that he was left baffled after yesterday's second practice session, as Mercedes were left in the midfield pack, over one second off the fastest time set by Sebastian Vettel.
Pre-weekend, there were reports that the Silver Arrows would struggle at Monaco due to their longer wheelbase. However, in FP1 a Mercedes was top of the timesheets, leaving Hamilton to scratch hid head with confusion over what's gone wrong.
"P1 was really good, the car was feeling great. Then there was night and day difference, black and white. P2 was a little bit different, we couldn’t work the tyres for some reason, lots of sliding about.
"Lot of studying to do to find out where we went wrong, but I’m confident in my guys. I don’t know if it’s set-up. It’s just with the tyres, I don’t know why the tyres weren’t working."
With no running on a Friday at Monaco, the Mercedes crew have a full day to analyse all the data and figure out just what is making them struggle: "That’s something we have to study and figure out for Saturday," Hamilton added. "It gives the guys here more time to work on the car, spread over two days, rather than everything tonight."
