Non-executive chairman of Mercedes Niki Lauda has said that double world champion Fernando Alonso is not on the wish list of the Brackley based team. Alonso is out of contract at the end of the year and has been linked with a move to the team that have won the last three constructor championships.
The Spaniard is currently living in a rough patch in terms of his F1 career as McLaren-Honda are struggling to produce pace and reliability. Honda linked up with McLaren for the start of the 2015 season, but have since only picked up 103 championship points.
While many relish the thought of a new rivalry between former teammates Alonso and Hamilton, Lauda has said that it's unlikely to happen: "He (Alonso) is certainly not on our wish list. We are fully satisfied with Hamilton and Bottas. But as my partner Toto Wolff has said: never say never," the Austrian added.
Alonso and Hamilton partnered each other at McLaren in 2007 but the relationship turned sour quickly. The Spaniard felt that he was being treated unfairly in comparison to Hamilton and left the team after just one season.
