There was a large crowd at Zandvoort this weekend as the track played host to Jumbo Race Days. A large portion of the crowd no doubt turned up to see Verstappen, who set a new fastest lap around the track in the RB8, Red Bull's 2012 Formula 1 car.
Tens of thousands of people witnessed Verstappen set a 1:19.511. Despite it being the fastest time a car has driven around the track, it is not official as the time was set on a demo run. The old lap record was held by Luca Badoer, former Formula 1 driver and test driver for Ferrari. Badoer set the time in 2001, a 1:19.880.
The last Dutch GP at Zandvoort was held in 1985 and won by Niki Lauda. It is still commonly used and features on the DTM and Formula 3 calendars. There has been a push in the last year to get the Dutch GP going again.
