Valtteri Bottas finished third behind Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton and bemoaned understeer for his lack of pace in comparison to his team-mate in Sakhir.
"It was a really tricky race for me. I was struggling with the pace. The first stint we had a bit of an issue with the tyre pressures. I was oversteering all through the race and that's why the pace was slow".
The Finn led the race in the early exchanges but as time progressed he struggled for pace and was ordered to move aside for Hamilton as the Briton attempted to catch Vettel.
He was subdued on the podium and appeared clearly disappointed at his apparent number two status within the team: "It was a shame because for sure the target today was a lot, lot higher."
Bottas will have to dust himself down before the Russian Grand Prix in two weeks' time and will be very determined to bring about a turnaround in fortunes as the Formula One circus heads to Sochi.
"There is much more to come," he said to David Coulthard as he collected his third place trophy on the podium.
