Daniel Ricciardo has expressed surprise over his second-row start, as the Australian managed to set a lap time that got him in front of Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari.
While the Red Bull's showed pace in the final practice session, they were not expected to keep it up in qualifying and so it showed, as they were a distance away from the Silver Arrows who took their first front row lock-out of the year.
"It's a bit of a surprise," said Ricciardo about his starting position. "We thought if we put everything together we could get a second row and we got it."
The strategy will be an important factor in the race tomorrow as it is very marginal between a one and two-stop race, something Ricciardo pointed out would be interesting to see.
"It's good progress in a week so I'm pretty happy. The others have still got a big margin but if they have some tyre deg then who knows. It's still up in the air if is a one or two stop race so we will see how that plays into out hands."
