Red Bull to bring new car to Barcelona

Red Bull are to supposedly bring a new car to the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona next month. The team have been struggling so far and seem to have fallen behind Mercedes and Ferrari in terms of pace.

Added to the engine that Renault will be bringing one race after Spain, Dr Helmut Marko thinks that Red Bull will be competitive from thereon in.

"In Barcelona, we are coming with a new car," he said. "A race later in Montreal, Renault will be delivering a new, more powerful engine. Then it should be possible for us to win on our own power and make the current two-way (driver) fight into a four-way fight."

2017 was predicted to be Red Bull's year, as they were favourites to rise to the challenge of the dominating Mercedes. While it appears Ferrari have made the biggest leap, many predict that Red Bull could win this year's development race which will take them to the front of the field before long.

I think you mean "have fallen behind Mercedes and FERRARI" although it is true they seem to have fallen behind themselves!

Woohaa. That´s quite a big decision they probably made immediately after the barcelona test... the development race is going to be quite interesting!! I´m pretty sure Merc and Ferrari know how to answer..

  • Yawn, these salesman pitches are not worth taking seriously. They'll improve no more than everyone else and will still keep sucking, maybe winning a race due to other's misfortunes, that's been RBR story in 2016 nothing on merit. Redbull have lost engineering people to other teams, it's not the same set of people anymore and the result is performance regression. If the first iteration is bad how did they know it is bad? Certainly not from the tests, that's too late already. These decisions are made many many months ago almost 8-9 months ago. So they started out knowing they had a turd? Yeah right! that's not how engineering development works. RBR are scrambling now because they don't have much choice but to try after all the loft expectations set up by themselves and the outsiders.
