Red Bull's young Dutchman Max Verstappen proved once again that he is a master of changing conditions as he coped extremely well with a very slippery track during the Chinese Grand Prix.
Verstappen started brilliantly, expertly navigating his way past no less than nine cars on the opening lap, with Martin Brundle likening the feat to something out of a videogame.
"It was very challenging. I think my lap one I passed nine cars so not too bad but very happy with that and afterwards I think a very good race,"
He was up against it after an engine software issue in qualifying and he had a lot to do in the race after starting sixteenth.
"Very happy to be on the podium. I didn't expect that at all".
The only mark on Verstappen's day was the latter period of the race in which he was complaining about Haas driver Romain Grosjean not moving over as the Dutchman attempted to lap him, but Verstappen was more than happy with his performance overall.
"I just wanted clear air. I was already struggling a lot with the fronts [tyres] and that doesn't help. In the end we still finished on the podium so very happy".
