Team principal of Haas Guenther Steiner believes that Mercedes' dominance in terms of engine power is over, with Ferrari on par with the Silver Arrows. It does seem after the Australian Grand Prix that Ferrari as a competitive team have caught Mercedes, as Sebastian Vettel took his 43rd career victory.
Since the introduction of the V6 Hybrid era in 2014, Mercedes have been on top of the power list, producing more straight line speed than Ferrari, Renault or Honda who entered the sport in 2015.
Haas themselves are equipped with Ferrari power units and seem to have a consistent point competing car after Romain Grosjean qualified sixth in Australia. Steiner thinks that because of the more efficient engine, Haas are in a very strong position.
"Ferrari has put in a big step over the winter. The whole package has improved. The advantage that Mercedes had seems to have disappeared. The other teams will develop naturally during the season, but thanks to Ferrari now we are where we are."
