Ricciardo : "I'm getting out of here!"

Daniel Ricciardo suffered a nightmare weekend in Melbourne and will be more than happy to arrive in Shanghai with the opening race fully behind him.

After crashing in qualifying and subsequently changing the gearbox and dropping five places on the grid, his weekend went from bad to worse on the formation lap when his car became stuck in sixth gear.

He started the race two laps down and eventually had to retire from the Grand Prix, capping off a disappointing weekend for the Australian.

In an interview with Sky Sports, he tried his best to find positives from the race. "On the plus side, I'm getting out of here! It's been a long week,"

"Don't get me wrong, it's been fun but I feel bad for everyone, especially the fans. I believe there are more people here supporting me than anyone else and I'm sure they would have loved for me to get out there and race.

"It just snowballed on from yesterday. The five-place grid penalty sounded bad enough, then obviously we had other issues.

"I'm happy to move on. I'm disappointed but I'll wake up tomorrow and be fine."

The Honey Badger will hope that he can move on quickly and that his car will be both reliable and competitive in China. The issue that forced him to retire was a separate one to the gearbox issue suffered prior to the race.

"We believe it was something to do with the fuel pressure," he explained.

"Basically it just switched off and there was no procedure I could do to stay out there."
