Lewis Hamilton has said that he has so far enjoyed testing his new Mercedes car, the W08, claiming that it is the fastest F1 car he has ever driven.
The 2017 regulations mean the cars have more downforce for higher cornering speeds, and fatter tyres for for more grip. While the Silver Arrows have impressed so far at the pre-season test, Hamilton hopes that the cars will make the best racers stick out.
"I like to drive this car, it's a fantastic feeling to walk into the garage to see the car, and then realize that I am one of only two people who can drive this car, and it’s incredible. It feels a bit unreal and I hope that the men from the boys can distinguish themselves with these cars."
With the new regulations comes worry that the racing will be spoiled, due to an increase of dirty air flowing off the back of the cars, making them hard to follow each other.
Hamilton has frequently voiced his opinion on this matter over the winter and has continued to do so at the Barcelona test.
"I feel like a child during a rollercoaster ride, because it's so much better than it was. These are absolutely the fastest F1 cars I've ever driven, and we have not done runs with little fuel. It's just difficult to follow other participants. I do not know how that will unfold during a race. The turbulent air that comes from another vehicle, is now twice as bad."
