Juan Pablo Montoya pulled off a stellar debut at the Race of Champions as the Columbian defeated the field to become the Champion of Champions. The former F1 driver defeated Le Mans legend Tom Kristensen 2-0 in the final.
Montoya started the event by beating Pascal Wehrlein and Petter Solberg in group and progressed onto the knockout stages. The 41 year old then failed to lose a heat by conquering Travis Pastrana in the quarter-final, Felipe Massa in the semi-final and Kristensen in the final.
"I'm over the moon. I'd never done this event before and my wife said 'I want to go you better race'," said Montoya. "You go from a rallycar, to a buggy, to a KTM, it is amazing."
Pascal Wehrlein rolled his Polaris Slingshot SLR, whilst racing fellow F1 driver Felipe Massa but thankfully nobody was injured. The final day of the Race of Champions occurs today, with a 'Ryder Cup' style competition.
