Jolyon Palmer feels that he is ready to fight further up the field next season, after a disappointing year in 2016.
Renault bought Lotus at the end of last season and were expected to struggle, but the Enstone based team only took home eight points this season, one of which was Palmer's.
"The team can make a big step," Palmer told Sky Sports. "We knew this year would be difficult, it was a transition year and our first year back from Lotus to Renault. We’ve put a lot of focus on next year and we can act like a proper manufacturer team, consistently getting points and generally mixing it with the guys at the front.
"When you are struggling to get out of Q1, it’s difficult to make an impression. Hopefully next year, as the second Brit on the grid, I can hopefully get in the mix a lot more."
