Carlos Sainz not willing to wait for Red Bull

Published on 21 Oct 2016 11:31

Carlos Sainz will not wait around for Red Bull to promote him, and hopes they will not intervene with a move away again.

It is understood that Sainz was in-line for a move to Renault but was blocked by Red Bull as they didn't want to lose him. Sainz feels honoured that the team believe in him but wants to move to a front running team sooner rather than later.

"To my regret, Red Bull Racing are very happy with their drivers,” he said in Austin. “It’s good for them that there is a third driver who is waiting for the right moment, but I can’t wait my whole life. I hope they understand that,” added Sainz.

When asked if he thinks the team would intervene again he said: "I hope not. Red Bull are tough but also fair. If they do not need to replace one of the drivers, then I’m sure they’ll find a fair solution.”

I think Carlos will be most of the time in the points next year. The STR is e great car, this year engine is just worthless. Next year with Renault will bring Torro Rosso more points and may be 4th place in the Championship...

It'll definitely be a better year for TR performancewise, but they'll certainly not get 4th place or even 5th place for free, at least not if Force India and Williams can help it. And then we have a potentially stronger McLaren, Renault will feature their own and probably better chassis, Haas might still be in the mix, we may or may not see a stronger Sauber and Manor (though I doubt either of the latter will beat Toro Rosso).
