Ferrari Junior driver Charles Leclerc knows that winning the GP3 series will be crucial if he is to find a race seat in Formula One for 2017.
Leclerc has frequently tested for Haas during a Grand Prix weekends and got a chance to drive the 2016 Ferrari at the post-race test at Silverstone last week.
Unless he wins the 2016 GP3 crown, Leclerc won't be able to race in F1 in as he only holds 17 of the 40 FIA Super Licence points required to compete in F1. Winning the GP3 championship will give Leclerc 30 more points.
"I need to win this year to gain my Super Licence," said Leclerc."This season has started well as I am first in the championship."
Haas, whom Leclerc drove for in yesterday's first free practice session, has stated that they will not evaluate their driver line-up until September.
Meanqhile, the Monegasque driver is currently locked in battle in GP3 with team-mate Alex Albon, both drivers fighting hard for the dominant ART team to win the championship.
